Scene Discussion: Strange Days (1995)
In 1995, no existing camera system could accomplish the long-take POV sequences of ‘Strange Days’. A portable camera and SteadiCam-style rig was designed for the production, shooting long takes and disguising cuts with rapid camera pans. Due to the pacing of certain scenes, sound and dialogue were recorded in post.
These complicated POV scenes gave ‘Strange Days’ it’s unique look, which along with ’The Blair Witch Project’ (which would see it’s release 4 years later) paved the way for cinema verite’ in future Hollywood blockbusters.
